Recently, Comeos and Unizo, two major business organizations in Belgium, have severely criticized the Belgian Postal Service (bpost) for expanding its cooperation with the controversial Chinese e-commerce platform Temu. These two associations representing the interests of the retail industry described this move as a "heavy blow" to local retailers in Belgium and publicly called on Vanessa Matz, the Belgian Minister of Public Enterprises (from the Les Engagés political party), to intervene.
Facing the skepticism, the Belgian Postal Service holds a different stance. In its official statement, the company emphasizes that its strategic cooperation with Temu will open up new business opportunities and development space for local enterprises in Belgium. According to the press release issued by the Belgian Postal Service, the company has reached a principled cooperation agreement with Temu, and both parties plan to carry out in-depth cooperation in the Belgian and Canadian markets. The cooperation includes testing innovative logistics and distribution models, and improving the convenience of terminal distribution services by setting up more convenient pickup points and parcel delivery stations.
It is noteworthy that this cooperation comes at a sensitive time when the European market is embroiled in ongoing disputes over the business practices of Chinese e-commerce platforms, making Belgian Post's commercial decisions particularly notable.
